G.V. CRAIG
I like telling stories about things that are meaningful.
There is nothing worse than reading a story that doesn’t love its characters.
I live at the crossroads of edgy and poet.
"My recent short play collection", “Six Noisettes” - six joyful, sorrowful and luminous plays is a blend of sorrow, joy and sometimes just plain charm and wit!
Six Noisettes translates into Six Hazelnuts, and like its name, these plays are rich and small.
As one book can speak volumes, sometimes less is more.
Whether it be a frantic Queens couple who are being chased by three loan sharks, an evangelistic dump landfill manager who transforms garbage into spirituality, or a desperado Hollywood script writer in the final stage of addiction, all of my characters reflect the divine and the ordinary which lives in us all.
My plays have been produced at Manhattan Repertory Theatre, Eventide Theatre in Cape Cod, Provincetown Amphitheater during family week, The Episcopalian Actors Guild, Theater at St. Clement, The Jewel Box Theater, The Producers’ Club, the Chain Theater, and by the LGBT (NYC) Community Center to name a few.
My musicals are lyrical and poetic, each set in a mythical past, yet they still resonate with contemporary themes.
I have been a semi-finalist for The Nation Magazine Discovery Poetry Prize; I have received literary acknowledgment for my play, “Wizard;” and I have published poetry in small magazines as well as written essays for DanceView Magazine. I was a winner for best comedy, NYC LGBT Community Center, and was a former winner of a Winter Reading prize from Provincetown Theater for my last play. I have recently been named finalist for the Kaplan Writers Competition for full length play. I am a member of Dramatists Guild USA, Theater Resources Unlimited, and I am a board member for STRAMAL, NYC , a non-profit devoted to encouraging teens’ and tweens’ artistic aspirations..
